Hey you! Today’s fashion discussion is all about the fashion design history! Today’s outfit is just a summer vibe to welcome in the 90 degree weather that is currently happening in Texas. This is one of my favorite maxi dresses and this one has been a go to for years now. I don’t even remember where I got it from I had it so long.
So today’s discussion is all about the famous designer Charles Frederick Worth who dominated the Paris fashion scene back in the late 1800s. If you haven’t heard about him well here’s your fashion history lesson for the day: this man started out in the fashion industry by moving to Paris in 1845 and working at a dress accessories shop. Then after he got married he made beautiful gowns for his wife and eventually gained some clients who wanted dresses made for them also. In 1858 he started his own dress shop and from there gained serious popularity in the fashion scene.
This creative designer is the reason why we have haute couture today. He allowed his clients to pick out the color, fabric, and detailing for an outfit before he designed it for them. Worth had some very wealthy clients like Queen Victoria and Empress Eugenie.
In addition to the wealthy clientele, Worth also designed wardrobes for some upper class clients who needed dresses for events and costume balls. During that time it was very important for women to make a good impression and set themselves apart from others by wearing high quality and stylish pieces that were made in Paris.
One of Worth’s evening gowns is actually being sold on Etsy right now for a whopping $6,291.64! This beautiful dress pictured below was made with silk, tulle, and lace and has a gorgeous train. Anyone want to buy a six thousand dress??
